About the material: fiber-reinforced cellulose casing

Fibrous casing is a cellulose-based casing made from viscose, a material produced by processing wood-derived cellulose. During manufacturing, the liquid viscose is extruded through a ring-shaped nozzle to form a continuous, seamless tube, which is then reinforced with a thin fiber paper similar to what's used in tea bags, giving the casing extra tensile strength and a stable, consistent diameter.

Because both the viscose and the paper come from renewable plant-based sources, fibrous casing is considered an environmentally friendly choice. It is valued for its natural permeability to smoke and moisture, its translucency, and its dimensional stability — properties that make it especially suited to dry, cured sausages such as salami that need a precise, consistent caliber for slicing, as well as smoked and cooked sausages, cooked hams, and processed cheese.
